It was a pretty ocean with a good bite. It is always great to see all my friends from the Oregon Inlet area. We caught 20 yellowfins and 2 gaffers.
The next day I rode around with my buddy ,Fog. We went to see my buddy Irving Forbes at his boat shop. We left there and went by Etheridges commercial gear shop. I bought a box of moldcraft squids. I finished the day off with a last shopping spree at Whalebone Tackle.
Stayed Tuned I got 9 days offshore in S.C. and more to come!
March 14th
I went to Pine Island by myself. I caught 10 bass from 12 to 3. I was fishing a 7 red shad worm. I love worm fishing for bass. We use to catch them good at Russellville flats at the Lower Lake (Moultrie). The alligators put a stop to wading. I kept 5 fish and released 5. They were tasty.
March 9th 2nd Annual Pack Club Duck Supper
This event is a Great Time. Lots of great food, entertainment, and fundraiser for the Pack Club. All proceeds go directly to off season wildlife food. The event was a little late. Next year we will move it back to February.
March 2nd
We attended the Florence DU Oyster Roast. It was one of the best DU events I ever attended in Florence. We set up our booth and sold custom shirts for that event. The response was very good. Thanks to Derrick, Lee, and the whole group who made this one of the greatest events in Florence DU history.
February 17th go back a couple!
Freddie Pack and I went to Pine Island to catch crappie. We started out in the clubhouse pond. We caught a couple of crappie on minnows. We released these and went to the big pond on the front. We trolled almost too dark only catching a couple. We decided to leave. On the way to the truck we caught a triple. In a few circles we had 15 really quick. Cold water crappie are the best fried freshwater fish I have ever eaten. These ended up no different. Great afternoon was had!
Complete update coming very soon. Thanks for your patience! John W.
The first week of February Harold Langdon brought the rabbit dogs to town. We had great running. I think we shot 20 head. We had a really good rabbit supper. Always great to have Harold and the crew come to town. Look forward to next season.
The next weekend I meet Goatie in Georgetown. We picked oysters and clams. They were the best. Clam chowder and steamed oysters, clams. It was very good.
Week three found me fishing for crappie with Fred Holland in Johnsonville. We had almost given up on fish catching. We caught a triple on crappie on the way to the truck. In a short while we 15 head. Fresh cold water crappie are the best fried freshwater fish .Another great weekend!
Week four found us with too much to do .The Big Buck Supper was at the Pack Club. Chris, John Westley and I attended the Pee Dee River DU banquet. The Pee Dee River Chapter group gets the job done in a down home way. Full house again! They do it right. We left Hemingway and finished the night at the Pack Club.
I am back to work hard in between the weekend adventures. Time is passing fast. It will not be long before the first Blue Marlin bite.
Stay After Em John W.
Keep America Fishing Rally Sponsored
by
Tailwalker Marine
To All Fishermen
Are you satisfied with current offshore fishing regulations? Do you realize its the far lefts intent to also increase regulations on inshore and freshwater fisheries?
The fact is, regulations on Black Sea Bass, Red Snapper and other species are based on flawed data. They know it and we know it. In fact, the current government does not want good data. Without it, they can promote their own agendas.
If you want to have a say concerning fisheries regulations, please join us for the Keep Fishermen Fishing Rally sponsored in part by Recreational Fisheries Alliance in Washington DC. The Rally will be on March 21 at the Upper Senate Park.
The 2010 Rally was an extreme success finally getting our politicians to understand what was going on. They now realize that the Magnuson Stevens Act, which was altered in 2006, is flawed. Science, flexibility and common sense need to be reinstated. We must keep the pressure on if we stand a chance of defeating the far left lobbyist for Pew and EDF. If we dont, the far left environmentalists and the Agenda 21 extremists will take your rights away.
Tailwalker Marine is sponsoring a bus to take people to the Rally. The cost is $3,600.00 for the round trip that will be done in one day. The Rally will start at 12.00 noon on March 21st. Tailwalker Marine will cover half of the cost of the 56 person bus so the individual cost will be $35.00.

Back home. Arkansas was great. I had a fantastic time. Overall hunting was great, there were ups and downs. We had one of my lifetime best hunts. Maybe 2! My buddies from Manning Bryant Boyce and Cape Lee found them strong and called us in .1st day was 17 limits by 8 15, 2nd day 17 limits by 9 15 , 3rd day 15 limits by 11 00. It was incredible to see a group that large call, shoot and interact in such a professional manner. FLAWLESS!!!! In all aspects .Lots more great hunts. I am ready for next year already.
Good news is that is now fishing season. Ready to shift gears. In the meantime I am back to work. Let me know if we can help in any way.

2011
Christmas Report
We had a great hunt in Canada. The ducks are a bonus to the friendship and camaraderie with our friends there. We are already looking forward to next year. The first season in Arkansas was good. It is a pleasure to bring up a group of kids who are young men now. They excel in every area, boats and motors, calling skills as a team, woodsmanship, shooting, and above all manners and respect for all around them. We will set out on the last split in Arkansas. Lots of water and a warmer year to contend with, we will make the best of it.
We will post pictures as often as possible. There is a new post on youtube. Arkansas 2011. Enjoy!
Merry Christmas everyone.
Hey Everyone, I apologize for taking this long to update my outdoor report. I fished out 2 tournaments in August, planted a deer club, converted a 30 year old process from cob corn to feeders, spent 22 days on a duck hunting trip to Manitoba, hunted the rut in S.C., WORKED , LIVED ,ETC. lol. I promise details will follow. For now, I am getting ready to depart to Arkansas for the season.
John W.
August 8-12 White Marlin Open
I am fishing the NO PROBLEM this tournament. Goatie, John Westley, and me. Our luck was not as good here. We saw fish every day. We pulled off several but no keepers were caught. Not a lot to report. We were all in for the kill. Lots of fish were caught. Most of those who caught did not win any more money than we did. We fished plugs during this tournament. Maybe next year!
August 5-6
I am leaving for Ocean City by way of Manteo. Stopped by Pirates Cove to see old friends. I helped Eddie Huffman clean the First Crack and off to his house for dinner. It is always good to eat there. Seafood at its finest. Next morning I awoke and made my way to Ocean City.
July 24th 27th
I am back to Bermuda fishing for Blue Marlin on the GAME ON. I met the group in Charlotte. While waiting for departure I got a text from Bubba. Kelly was hooked up to a big blue one. We flew over before finding out her fish had pulled almost at the boat. She fought the fish for over an hour. The next day we faced the same scenario. A 500 + blue one ate the right short. Kelly did a great job getting that 130 to the chair loaded with blue marlin. We fought this fish for an hour and 15 minutes and it pulled 20 to 30 yards from the boat. I was in a state of disbelief .This rarely happens two times in a row almost the same exact way. The only difference was the first fish took a lot of drag and the second fish, not as much. I dont know why it happened like that. The next day Bubba caught a blue one late in the afternoon. It was truly a great time. We cooked and ate on the boat every afternoon. It sure is great to have fresh yellowfin to eat. Thanks Stevie! Anyone who loves Blue Marlin fishing needs to go to Bermuda! I am back home and then off to Maryland for a while.
July 19th
The past 2 weeks fishing has slowed. I have been walking and working out early in the mornings. My dogs jumped another spotted fawn walking this week. I had to holler them off. It got pretty close. This is the 3rd encounter this year. It also seems we have a pig problem. Our first one in this area. I hope to eradicate them ASAP. Honey stepped over a rattle snake without a bite. The dogs and I turned, and left him there.
July 15
This is full moon. Strange things happen on full moons. It seems that the biggest fish bite that day. The first of the week looked good weather wise for a blue marlin trip to the Georgetown Hole. I talked to Jim Johnston on The Big Sky and he was all about it. The full moon in July is a great time for us to chase the S.C. state record. That record is held by Rascal from Georgetown. It was caught in the Georgetown Hole. I was fishing with the captain who held the record the day the Rascal caught her. Captain Al Johnson (Big Fish Al) had the record for years. I might add that he still holds the biggest marlin weighed at the Big Rock. One was weighed larger last year but disqualified over a fishing license .Getting back to the story the Rascals fish weighed 881.8. That is the mark to beat. Captain Ted Porter and I once had a fish in our spread that in both our minds would have exceeded 1000 pounds. She came in on a Pakula lumo sprocket. She moved to the short shotgun. We watched this fish with lit up pecks and tail for more than a minute. I have no doubt this fish would not have been a state record. There are several of us around Georgetown that would chase the state record fish. Jim and I were in for the 15th. It was not to happen though. The wind blew up from the east and ruined our trip. Maybe next year we will get another chance on the full moon in July.
Megadock July 6-9
I was fishing in Bermuda on Wednesday morning. That night I was in Charleston for the Megadock (www.megadocktournament.com )tournament. Thursday morning found me in the ocean fishing again. We jumped a sailfish off on the set out. That was it .The Big Kahuna laid the next day and the tournament was weathered out Saturday. Congratulations to the Full Pull. They have always been good friends. My friend Chucky Moore was the Captain. Chucky is a great fisherman and a wealth of knowledge on plug fishing for Blue Marlin. Good On you guys. Everyone remembers the Full Pull with Capt Ed Keelin the past years. Ed is one of the nicest guys in the business. He is still around in the fishing world. I am proud to call all these people my friends.
Headed home . I have been gone for 10 days.
Bermuda
This trip was a great time. Bubba, Jeremy www.atlanticgameandtackle.com, and I met in Columbia. We flew from Charlotte the next morning to Bermuda. This is a beautiful place. We went fishing that afternoon for a couple of hours. No bites. The next morning we left the dock at 7. Early in the morning we got our first bite. The fish was a good one. We fought her for an hour and 15 minutes. Wow , what a fish this was. She was extremely fat. The best length measurement we got was 130 inches. We had a snooter and revived her for 20 plus minutes. She was paddling good when she parted. We got lines back in the water and got hit again immediately . This fish pulled off after about 200 yards. Lines back in the water and sometime later a 3rd bite. We caught this one. 300+ pounder; this was a great day of fishing. We also missed a white .
We had guessed our big fish at 800 +. News of the fish traveled around the docks. After having several local captains viewed our pictures and called the fish 900, we used the formula to approximate the weight. We knew she was 130 straight line. We gave her a conservative 4 inches for the curve of the body and a conservative 74 inch girth. The calculation came to 917. Honestly I think the fish was more 77 to 78 girth and the length could have been at least a couple more inches. Who Knows? She would have definitely died 2days later in the World Cup www.bluemarlinworldcup.com . She looked good when she left.
June 20-23
I worked on my gardens all week getting ready for the Carolina Billfish Classic www.fishcbc.com this week. This is a great tournament. Most of the local boats out of Georgetown Landing Marina www.georgetownlandingmarina.com get to fish and attend tournament functions at Georgetown. The Weather was rough the first day. Blue Sky bent a rigger in the slop. They caught a Blue Marlin though. We caught a sailfish on the Big Kahuna. The Christy caught a sail and a white and a great box of meat fish. This crew does extremely well in the meat categories .They also have seen a lot of billfish action this year. Our 2nd day of fishing saw pretty weather. We started out in the Georgetown hole and found horrible weedy conditions. I like staying on the bank this time of year. I think those marlin are forced up on the bank when the water gets hot. Also the best concentrations of bait are on those cool rocks. When they come out of the deep 600ft to 30 fathom is my top choice. We ended up trying to find cleaner water and fishing in the deep. No fish that day.
I do have one other opinion to add. It has been a long tradition to take your billfish flags down before 12 the next day . Countless flags have been nailed or glued to the dock for leaving the flags up past the time. Most of the time this is more a mistake than being left on purpose. It is no more appropriate to leave your flags up than to poot out loud in church on homecoming Sunday.
June 11-18 Big Rock
This tournament started out like no other. I got an email from a friend of a friend needing a ride for a Blue Marlin mount which had fallen from the wall and needed a ride to Morehead City for repair. I read it that morning, made contact, and took it to Big Rock with me. I always feel things happen for a reason. I met Danny who owns Fish and Wildlife Unlimited Taxidermy www.fishunlimitedtaxidermy.com . He got the damaged fish. In our conversation I got a 58 Dolphin for Shawn Duffee who caught a 56.5 pounder several years back out of Georgetown. Goatie and I purchased a shoulder mount of our Maryland Grander. He did us right.
Our first day of fishing was a nice day. Fishing was good, catching did not happen. We developed and fuel leak on our starboard side. We monitored it on the ride back. A simple leak turned into an engine room full of smoke. Things got hairy for a while. We got the area cooled down, assessed our problem, and started cleaning up. Our main problem now was a $20 dollar part that could cost us an extra day. We called around and could get the part next day air. Thats where the strength of the Big Rock staff wwwthebigrock.com paid off. I went to the office and talked to Randy Ramsey. In short order he put me in touch with George at Precision Marine. www.jarrettbay.com/tag/precision-marine We had our part and a professional understanding of the working order of our problem. If you need help call these guys. They are on time. We put our boat back together, cleaned up, and test drove before 12 o'clock. The Big Rock is one Great Tournament. Thanks
The fishing from the first day was good in other places. Capt. Kenny and crew on the Double B caught a 652 to win. My buddies on the Trophy had the winning fish and it got into their props and was disqualified. They had a big fish.
Day 2 and 3 were uneventful. On day 4 we caught the largest Wahoo and Dolphin to win both dailys. All in all it was the first major tournament with the updated crew. We handled everything well and worked as a team. Its only a matter of time before we strike again.
I fished on The Office. We had a great group from Hemingway /Johnsonville area on the 9th. We picked at the dolphin all day. The best treat was having the Big Tuna prepare our fresh catch for us.
It was really good. The next Chris Duffee, his daughter Shawn, and her friends fished with us. Again we picked at the dolphin. The weather was great both days.
June 8th
Today I went back to my country roots. I fished the creek. I always love to wade the creek fishing with a beetle spin. The creek is so pretty this time of year. I managed to catch a mess of fish. They were cleaned and a fish fry followed. It was great. Fried fish, coleslaw, hushpuppies, baked beans, and grits. The hushpuppies were off the charts.
While fishing that day I walked up on a small fawn on the creek bank. I saw it and got my flip cam out. As I move closer to get a picture, it bolted. All I filmed was a brown blur moving through the grass. It was cute.
June 4th
I am back on The Office again today. This was another great day. We caught a white one and 12 dolphin .2 of the dolphin were caught on fly rods. One was 30+ pounds and the other a slinger. Congrats to Dr. Taylor and Dr. Sasser. One of the most special things I have ever participated in was fishing with Verne Stull. Verne is a double leg amputee. He caught 4 fish that day. Verne, it was my pleasure!
June 3rd
I fished again today on The Office. I had a group of local guys. We had a slow start but ended the day with 2 blackfins and 15 dolphin.
May 30th
I fished on The Office with a great group. We caught 24 head of dolphin. They did a great job. We pulled off a billfish and missed a blue one later in the day.
May 25- 28th Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament.
The tournament for us on the Big Kaduna was very uneventful. I felt more like a gardener than a fisherman. Weeds were everywhere. A couple of mishaps the last day were the highlights. On a brighter note our annual dock cook was wonderful. Special thanks to all who helped and contributed. The food was great. The tournament ended in a great fashion with Sportin Life winning in the last half of the day. I hate it for the Daymaker who came in second. They had a reel freeze up on a blue one that would have won the tournament. I was especially happy to see Capt Matt Wilkersen get 3rd aboard the Miss Y .No blue Marlin were killed.
May 22, 2011
The weather was still beautiful. Rhett and Virginia fished today on the Big Kahuna. John Westley was there also. We got a bite out of a white one . That was the highlight of our day.
I fished today on The Office. Fishing was fair. We caught 7 dolphin and a big blackfin. The weather is still great. Chris worked the Harbor Walk Festival for H&H Outdoor today. Traffic was good, sales were brisk, and the sun was blistering! We had a great dinner that night at Lands End with John Westley and Capt. Ted.
We are bill fishing again today on the Big Kahuna. Never saw one. We caught a few dolphins.
John Westley, Goatie , Mark Marzetti, and I fished the NO PROBLEM down from NMB to Georgetown. It was Scotts first fishing day as Captain of the boat. We caught 8 dolphin and a sailfish. Scott did a great job and caught a billfish his fist trip out as Captain. It was really good having Zetti on the boat with us. He cant reel enough. Looking forward to tournament season!
I am on the BIG KAHUNA TODAY. We chased an edge out deep. We never found any definition, just gradual change. We caught a few dolphin and never saw a billfish. We came in to the bank in the afternoon and ended up with 1 Wahoo there. Pretty day!
May 11, 2011
John Westley and I fished on THE OFFICE TODAY WITH A GREAT FRIEND Bengy Miller. We had a slow start. Blackfin tuna surfaced around midday chasing flying fish. We converted our longs to 30 ft 80# windons. One was naked and the other blue and white skirted. We caught 3 nice ones and one small one. We missed several more. In the process a change crossed us from the north. We went from 74 to 77 degree water. The gaffers showed up then. We ended up with a nice box of fish, all in the last 2 hours. We had a great time.
Fished yesterday with a great group of guys from Columbia, South Carolina on the Big Kahuna out of Georgetown. Caught 1 Sailfish, 4 Blackfins, 3 Dophin, and 9 Amber Jacks. I have never seen Amber Jacks in the Georgetown Hole like they are now! Fishings good, go when you can. Stay Tuned
April 22nd May 8, 2011
Turkey season is still going. We have done well. The Pack club has killed around 20 mature gobblers, no jakes. Fishing has been good, both freshwater and offshore. I fished with Freddie Pack on Little Pee Dee. Water was still a little high. We managed to catch a few Bluegill, all nice. I fished on the Big Kahuna on 4/22. We caught 9 dolphin and a wahoo. Chris and I attended the weight-in for The GLM Kids Chance Tournament. We had a good time and ate at the Lands End Restaurant. The food was really good! The big report is on 5/6 we went Blue Marlin fishing on the Big Kahuna. We chased the Roffers report and ended up way offshore. We went 0 for2 on Blue ones. We had one great bite. The fish ran off 100 to 150 yards of line and pulled off. The boat is raising fish again like she use to. We thank Capt Tom Lewis and Malcolm for a great job with shaft tubes. It has made a great difference. Thanks! We ended up with a couple of mahi for supper. Great day on the ocean!
I am working on gardens this year more than in the past. The fuel prices have given me more free time. My gardens really look good. We cant wait to start eating fresh vegetables from our gardens.
As always we are working on deer season related tasks. It never ends. The season will be here before you know it.
My buddy from Canada called and let me know the ducks and geese were back in large numbers. I am always ready for that.
In closing I would like to express my sympathy for all the weather related things that are going on. Japan could use any help we might give. The tornado ravaged areas in the U.S. need our help as well and please think about all the flood victims.
God Bess America! Right On .
John W.
April 1st -10th
Turkey season is upon us again. The Pack Club has killed 10 or more gobblers. All of the birds have been mature. Bo and Gary are back from Arkansas to hunt. Bo killed 2 nice gobblers and Gary none. I guess Gary had a long ride back home looking at Bos turkey beards on the dash of his truck. Kaylyn Jacobs killed her first turkey. It was almost 20 pounds with a triple beard. Her dad Terry was very proud. My buddy, Dave Fog Radke from Oregon Inlet killed a nice bird. Overall it seems that the turkey population is down.
I did get to go offshore on the 9th aboard the Big Kahuna. We caught 5 Blackfins. We are eating tuna on the grill for supper tonight. The Nautigirl caught 10 tuna and a Wahoo. The Blue Sky had 10 tuna and a couple of dolphin. Its time to go fishing.
Garden planting is also upon us. I cant wait for fresh garden vegetables along with fresh fish.
The time to get outside and enjoy the weather is now. Dont miss your chance.

There has been a lotgoing on this month. Crappie and Bass have been biting at the lake and ponds. I went fishing with Kevin Alford on Lake Moultrie. He schooled me in the art of catching bass on a spinner bait. It was a beautiful day. I have not fished for basson the lower lake in several years. I spent lots of time there in the 70s and 80s. Alligators ran me off around the turn of the century. All animals have a place, I dislike alligators, mosquitoes, and no see-ums with a passion.
I see turkeys strutting as I ride country roads. It will be their turn to get chased soon, lots of gobblers this year.
Two of my weeks were affected by an illness in my family. My wife Chris developed complications with her gallbladder and needed emergency surgery. Thanks to great doctors and staff she is recovering .It was a close call. Thanks to all who shared their wishes and prayers.
We are finally launching H&H OUTDOOR CLUB this coming month. There is no telling what will end up for sale there. T shirts, Photographs, and Prints will be for sale to start the process. I am proud to announce that we will be selling from the photography of Dr Eric Poppy Heiden. Poppy is a long time friend. His art is award winning. We will also be selling our own photographs. See you this weekend at the Palmetto Sportsmans Classic. We have a booth in the Cantey Building.
It is time to start planting gardens.
Thanks for the support!

The month of February has come and gone. I do not have a lot to report for outdoor action. It is quite an adjustment from hunting everyday to a complete stop. Work has been fun though. I have stored all of my equipment.
I have attended several really good functions. The boys put together the Pack Club Duck Supper. Food was excellent and I won the shotgun raffle. The Florence DU Oyster Roast had great attendance and good food also. The Jason Aldean Concert here in Florence was outstanding .My family has followed Jasons music since before he was famous. The Moores Crossroads Big Buck Supper was also a great community event. Rocky Moore was the big winner. Congrats, it couldnt happen to a nicer person. Finally the Pee Dee River Chapter DU event was this past weekend. These people know how to get the job done. They are very organized and have the best food you can imagine. They have been in the top 10% of DU chapters in the country for the last 4 years.
Freshwater fishing has been good in ponds and lakes. Catfish are starting to bite in the river. I am ready for some blue water myself. Capt. Ted has told me a few charters will be available on the Big Kahuna this season. Capt Steve has also let me know the Blue Sky will have limited charters this season. As always, The Office will be fishing the spring/summer season .If you want to go offshore let us know.
February has been a very pleasant month of weather. I hope it continues. There are a lot of things to do coming up. Fishing, land preps for spring planting, turkey season, will give us plenty to do. Get outside every time you get a chance.

COYOTES.
Coyotes have emerged as the number 1 threat to deer hunting. They contribute greatly to fawn mortality. They also follow and kill pregnant does. A study at the SRS found the kill rate of fawns to be higher than 75%. The Pack Club has noticed the impact of coyotes on our deer herd. It is time to fight back. We will never get rid of coyotes but we can put them back in a defensive posture. I suggest that everyone who hunts deer start hunting coyotes from March thru May. Put the pressure on coyotes during the fawn drop season. The internet is loaded with info and equipment to get the job started. Human pressure will make a difference. Everyone looks for a reason to get outdoors. Here is one with a real purpose. Get after them !

Today Fishing season got under way!
Ready To Go John W.
December 26th January 30
We just got home from Arkansas. It was some great hunting this year. Conditions were very harsh at times. There was never a promise of anything from day to day. We hunted the woods, brakes, sloughs, bayous, wet fields, and dry fields. It all worked out and some great duck harvests took place. I cant wait until next season. I am sorry for the late report. It takes a lot of work to keep up with the ducks. I also had limited internet access. Thanks for keeping up with our site.

Christmas Day
It has been another great family Christmas! We are leaving for Arkansas tonight to try and beat out the snow. We hope everything will go well and we will be back in camp tomorrow. Reports are the same, low water and heavy crowds. Check out our new duck hunting video, pretty good. We will be posting a report shortly.
Merry Christmas ..... John W.
December 2010
I'm in Arkansas now with Goaty waiting on the arrival of the boys; John Westley, Johnathan J, Brad P, John T, and Jamie M. looking forward to a great 10 days with the boys. pics and reports to follow. stay tuned.....
October17th-November 28th
We have hunted the deer steady. Movements this year have been strange. Never the less we have been steady picking at them. The Pack Club donated a hunt to Kids Chance, Relay for Life, and the S.C. Memorial Reef Foundation. We have one left to do. The Kids Chance hunter bagged a nice 8 pt. Buck. Duck season was a good, we shot wood ducks consistently every day. I am leaving for Arkansas next Sunday. One more good rain and the woods should have water. It has been a super dry year there.
We had our 28th Annual Pack Club Big Cook and party. Wow! It was great. Plenty of great food and fun! It was bittersweet without Billy Breeden there.
October 16th 26th
We are still hunting deer. The rut seems to be approaching. Bucks are chasing does. This weekend we killed a 21.5 inch 8 pt. He had good mass and medium tines. 123 net is what we roughed him at. Chris Bellflower was the lucky hunter. Danny Hurst and Richard Reynolds also killed nice mature bucks. My wife, Chris and I were hunting 10/23, she killed a nice six point buck and on my way to get her deer, I shot a nice 8 point buck a double buck night for us. The club had a couple of misses. Hunting is good and getting better by the day. We are looking forward to the cold front this weekend.
September 29th- October 15th
CANADA. We are on our annual waterfowl hunt in Manitoba. This trip was one of the best trips of my lifetime. Great hunting, great fellowship, and great food! We shot ducks and geese every day. We ate a lot and gave the rest to farmers and friends. I have been posting pictures and will continue to do so. The ducks had a great hatch. Look forward to Arkansas. The Canadian people are very nice. I love farmers anyway. We cant wait to go back. Our friends from Canada are cominglate winter to stay with us. We are looking forward to them getting here. Headed back home to deer hunt now.
SEPTEMBER 27- BLACK MONDAY
THIS DAY STARTED LIKE ANY OTHER NORMAL DAY OF OUR LIVES.I WAS IN A TRUCK BOUND FOR CANADA WHEN FREDS PHONE RANG. AFTER A SHORT CONVERSATION AND A LONG PAUSE FRED SAID YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT THIS CONVERSATION WAS ABOUT. THE MESSAGE WAS THAT LONGTIME FRIEND AND CLUB MEMBER BILLY BREEDEN HAD BEEN KILLED IN A FREAK CAR ACCIDENT. AT FIRST WE HAD HOPE IT WAS NOT TRUE. Not!!!!
BILLY BREEDEN WAS A KIND AND GIVING FAMILY MAN.HE WAS ALWAYS HELPING SOMEONE OUT. HE COULD MAKE ANYONE LAUGH. HE LEFT BEHIND A LOVING WIFE AMY AND TWO GREAT SONS REED AND MATTHEW WHO HE LOVED DEARLY. I CAN NOT ANSWER WHY THESE THINGS HAPPEN, NOR DO I UNDERSTAND THEM. THROUGH FAITH I ONLY HOPE GOD HAD A HIGHER CALLING FOR HIM.
THE PACK CLUB, MYSELF, OUR COMMUNITY, AND THE WORLD WILL FOREVER MISS BILLY BREEDEN!
SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE MY FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
REGRETFULLY, PACK CLUB, JOHN HURST, OUR COMMUNITY, THE ENTIRE WORLD (IT WAS A BETTER PLACE WITH BILLY BREEDEN IN IT)
September 23rd -26th
The club is doing well .The drought is holding on. Rain is in sight this weekend. Packing and getting ready for Canada.
September 15th - 22nd
It is still very hot and dry. We have been picking at the deer. We are steady working on the Pack Club. Robin killed an 18 mature buck with his bow Saturday afternoon. I shot a doe. Steaks were really good on Saturday night. Deer are really eating corn .I am leaving for Canada the 27th. Fred and Peanutwill make the trip this year. I cannot wait. Cold Weather!
September 6th
Fishing on the BIG KAHUNAtoday with Ted, Rhett, Erin Efird, and my wife Chris. It was a beautiful day. We trolled for blue marlin, plug fishing. I added a couple of Hawaiianeyes with ballyhoo for a Wahoo. The ballyhoo caught us 2 Wahoo and missed 2 billfish. We caught an undersized yellow fin and jumped a dolphin off at the back of the boat. The last hour we deep dropped for snowy grouper. We caught the limit in no time. Great day on the water.
August 20th September 5th
I am back to work on the Pack Club. Lots of work to be done. I passed on a small buck with my bow Sept. 1st. Stan killed a nice 8pt buck. Buster also killed a buck deer. Bryant Boyce killed an outstanding buck with his bow in Marion County. Hot and dry conditions are making hunting miserable.
I am looking forward to getting my black lab Lick back from Chris at Goose Pond Kennels. Its been 6 weeks and I miss her.
August 8
Today I fished with my son John Westley on the Ya Mamma out of Pirates Cove. We had 3 bites, all billfish. Miss one on the short rigger, caught a 450 to 500lber on the other short rigger and jumped off a white one. It was Westleys first blue as a mate. He did a great job. I am glad I was there!

August 2, 3, 4
We are fishing the White Marlin Open this week. We started the tournament offshore of the Poor Mans Canyon. The game plan was the same as last year, 3 big baits, 5 small, all plugs. We went 0 for 8 on white ones and jumped off a 200lb blue. Pretty poor on our part. The end of the day foundour crew in a service for our lost Captain Skip Opalko. We spread his ashes in the sea amongst tears and hugs.
The second found us in the same area. Our luck was a little better today. We caught 4 white ones, jumped 2 off, and missed 2 more. We also missed a small blue one. Lots of fish were caught all around us.
The 3rd day was totally uneventful in the same area.
Congrats to the LET IT RIDE on their grander and win. SEA TOY had a 93lb white and got beat. Lots of big fish this year.
August 2010
Sorry for the delay in posting the Outdoor Report. I had very limited computer access while fishing. Also, I have been bombarded with hunting club work, not to mention my real job upon returning from fishing. Stay tuned I will catch the report up shortly. Thanks for checkin in.

July 28-30 Edisto Billfish Tournament
I fished on the Game On. We fished for sailfish with a couple of big rigs out for blue ones. We had some good fishing. We caught 4 sails the first day and did not get a bite the last day. Game On ended up in 2nd place overall. I had a great time fishing with Kelly and Bubba. I dont want to leave out Cricket and Charles.
This is a plug for anyone who wants to increase the chance of billfish. Shaft Tubes in my opinion give you that edge. The NO PROBLEM and the BIG KAHUNA prime examples. Billfish action has picked up greatly since tube installations. If you need or want to discuss them, give Tommy Lewis a call at 843 530 3746. I highly recommend him. My second tip is do not buy or use store bought wind ons.

July 9
It was our last day to fish in the Megadock Tournament. We went to the numbers where we caught the blue one yesterday. Our plan was to work to the north in the same depth of water We made up the road about 40 or 50 clicks and got jumped on the left long by a blue one. Beautiful bite! Everything was going right so far. The fish ran off over 600 yards of line. We got cleared out and were recovering line nicely. The angler we had in the chair has caught over a 100 marlin, Rhett "World Wide Spencer. We got about 150 yards back when our fish jumped 400 yards away. Wow! She was truly a nice fish. She was a gaffer without question. Thats when everything went wrong. The fish went away. I cant express what a gut wrenching feeling this was. The closer the line got, we knew it was equipment failure and not just simply jumped off. Our wind on had parted. These had been changed at the last tournament. They were store bought also. That was a devastating thing to swallow. My advice to everyone is not to use store bought wind ons. We did not see another fish. Congratulations to the BENCHMARK for their win at Megadock. Good work Stephen, Bobby, Will, and the entire crew. No one killed a fish. Our fish would have won all the Calcutta money. Hopefully the man upstairs had better plans for her. I was going to kill her, NO DOUBT. What is done is done! Cant wait to try again.

We fished out to the 200s today. The BIG KAHHUNA was in the middle of the bite. A lot of Sailfish were being caught. BIG SKY caught a blue one just offshore of us. We fished in the crowd until mid day. We started wandering up the bank in 400 feet. A blue one jumped us on the left teaser. Uncle B snatched the teaser away and she piled on the short rigger. Little Rhett caught this one. She was very hot on the leader. We got a great release. She was a little less than 200. Only 4 blue ones caught today and none killed.

The last day of the Carolina Billfish Classic. We are fishing the Georgetown Hole again on the full moon. This should be a great place to be. It was not for us. We didsee a small fish that afternoon. Overall it was a slow day. Only 2 Blue Marlin caught in the tournament. The highlight of the day was to watch the BIG KAHUNA catch one of the Blue Marlin. Congratulations Capt Ted and Big Rhett. They had a great crew for the tournament.
June 24
This was the first day of the Carolina Billfish Classic. I am fishing on the NO PROBLEM OUT OF Georgetown Landing Marina. We got a shot at a blue one the first hour. It came in hot on the teaser and hit the flat line a couple of times before leaving. This was our highlight of the day. We fish again on Saturday.
June 23
Headed to Georgetown to fish the Carolina Billfish Classic on the NO PROBLEM. Weather looks good.
Yesterday Big Rock announced the disqualification of the CITATION. Rules are rules! WOW! Whats next? Could you be DQ'd for not having the proper number of life jackets or an expired fire extinguisher on board? I do not see any other choice for the Big Rock Committee in their decision. I do not like that rule. It should be up to law enforcement to enforce that rule.
June 18
Last day of fishing at Big Rock. My wife Chris is fishing today. We are fishing in the low 5s and high 4s today.
The water and conditions were beautiful. Still we saw no Blue Marlin. We caught 3 gaffers all day. Maybe next year.
June 17
We fished in the 800s today. Slow bite again today. We caught a couple of dolphins.
June16
We fished in the 600s today. We caught a couple of dolphin and got a charge out of a blue one on our left short rigger. No bite.
June 15
Our first day of fishing at the Big Rock. One knockdown all day. The bite is very slow. The weather is beautiful. Hope to get one in the next 3 days.
June 11
I am headed to Morehead City, N.C. To fish the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament on the NO PROBLEM. Dennis Brookshire is our Captain. Looking forward to fishing with Dennis again. We killed a blue one in 07 on the GAME ON together in the Charleston Harbor Tournament. We will miss our Captain Skip Opalko.
June 4
Ted , Rhett, and I are marlin fishing on the BIG KAHUNA. We fished the Georgetown hole. We did not catch a marlin. We saw a school of dolphin and blackfin mixed balling bait. It was a pretty sight.
June 3
I fished the Georgetown Meatfish Slam on the NAUTIGIRL. We caught 35 plus dolphin and 1 blackfin. We could not find a Wahoo. We won the tuna and 2nd place aggregate. Congrats to the PAINKILLER for winning most of the categories. Great time at Georgetown once again.
June 1
Not a big report. On my morning walk I had a doe nursing a fawn to let me walk by within 30 yards. She never ran. This was a first. Right after Blue Marlin season comes deer season. It will be here before you know it.
May 31
My son John Westley came home for several days. My daughter Laura Frances , JW, Big Rhett, myself, and Capt Ted fishedtoday chasing a blue one again. Lauras first trip in the ocean. She had a small fight with a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. The sandwich won. She recovered though. She caught her first fish , a dolphin. She caught another also. We had a great time. John Westley is back off to Oregon Inlet for a charter on Wednesday. Back at it on the weekend.
May 29
Yesterday we wander around chasing edges. Today we went to the Georgetown Hole. Fishing bottom today. Before lines ina White Marlin appeared tailing down sea. We work the area for a while . We wandered up the ledge for a while. All this time a large thunderstorm was coming in from the northeast. We stay on the numbers where we started. The rain was very heavy with lightning. In the middle of this storm we got hit on the shotgun. Fish slow ran off about a 100 yards of line. She must have looped around and came straight back to the boat. She lunged head and shoulders out of the water. She had a huge bat and long peck fins. She was a gaffer for sure.600 PLUS was our guess on the low side. I wish she would have stuck to the hook. She pulled off . Around 1pm we had a 300lber to show up on the teaser and eat our short rigger. She got out about 300 yards and jumped us off. Before we could set back up we had another small fish to beat everything down on the right side and leave. I will always think about the big fish. I generally guess small, this fish was anything but small. Caramba wins with 2 blue releases, Daymaker 2nd, Game On 3rd. Christy entered for the meat division only and won the wahoo, tuna, and aggregate. Good job !
May 28
Fishing was slow overall today. Kelly Roof on the Game On kept her streak going by catching and releasing a Blue Marlin. Caramba released a blue one. Houdini fought a fish into the night on a 30. They broke him off somewhere around 9pm. We saw 3 blue ones today. 1 bite, 1 charged on the long rigger(no bite) and another was a window shopper. Try again tomorrow.
May 27
The first day of the 43rd Annual Blue Marlin Tournament. Fishing on the Big Kahuna. All boats laid today. We had our second annual cookout. I prepared a 20 qt pot of seafood stew, fresh salsa, and slaw. Captain Ed had a huge pot of Cajun red rice with sausage and Boston butts. Mike Smith and J Simms had fried wild turkey, fried shrimp, and shrimp tacos with all the trimmings. Rhett Spencer had fresh Stone Crab claws. The food was outstanding. We invited everyone on the docks to eat. Once again it was an outstanding occasion

I post a fishing report on this site most of the time this year. Today I have something else to talk about. I was in Georgetown this week end . While I was there twice I had conversation about a copy cat product. The product was a copy of the Marlin Mudflap. After a few questions I found out you could only purchase this product in a set only. Anyone who knows the product can tell the difference. To put it bluntly the copy cat product stinks. It has the smell of piracy all over it. Compare them side by side. Brian Wimmer is a fisherman and developed this product through labors at sea chasing Blue Marlin. Check him out www.marlinmudflaps.com. The product looks so simple. Its not. Get you some of the real thing. Hope you catch a nice blue one.

This a report everyone wishes they have to never do. My close friend and Captain on the NO PROBLEM, Captain Lawrence(Skip) Opalko passed away on Sunday morning. Skip was diagnosed with cancer in October, 09. He has been a friend for over 25 years. I have fished with him on the NO PROBLEM since 1998. We have shared some great times hunting and fishing over the years. So long my friend, see you on the other side. Love you and peace be with you!

I fished today on THE OFFICE. Home boys from Florence on the trip, Brian Holt, Richard Reynolds, and company. We fished the best looking water and conditions you could want, slow bite. We caught 9 Dolphin and a Bonita for the day. The last of the day we were on a purple on green edge with a weed line in between, still very slow bite. It was that way for everyone we talked too. Still a beautiful day and a good time.

Fished the Bohicket Billfish Tournament on the BIG SKY with Jim Johnston and Bill Church. We saw a blue one very quickly on Thursday. He missed the bait. Friday we saw a small blue under our squid chain, no bite. At closing time a blue hit the teaser, they called lines out, and then piled on the long rigger. Still missed him. Congratulations are in order for several boats I know well. The BLUE SKY landed a blue capturing the whole Calcutta. Capt. Steve Cramer, Greg Smith, Ross Thames and the entire crew, Congrats! Kelly Roof of the GAME ON caughta blue and a sail to win the tournament. Her husband Bubba was running the boat, first tournament on the new boat. Congrats! RASCAL got 3rd place on time. They had a great group on their rig as well. It is always good to see the home boys do well.

Wind blew today. Suppose to be 25 degree temp break before tomorrow. I called Bob Lynch to go redbreast fishing with me on the creek. As I was putting my truck at the landing I felt a sting in my shoe. I looked down to see a turkey feather. The sting in my shoe was a pin wire and hook lodged in my crocs. Everything happens for a reason. Timing is golden. For those that dont know, turkey feathers have been a good luck charm to me for tournament marlin for a lifetime. I hope today was a new revelation. Win or lose I will be present. Oh,we caught over 50 head and kept 23. We had a great time.

May 7, 2010
Rhett, Capt Ted, and me today. Blue Marlin all the way. We found the water but no blue ones. We did get a bite out of a sailfish and caught 3 gaffers. Most important of all Capt Ted and I know what our Tournament Spread will be. Let the games begin. I love to compete and cant wait. I need a little rise in the moon and a new turkey feather.

I am back on the BIG KAHUNA today. We have LR and his Clemson classmates on the rig today. We started out meat fishing. It was slow. We caught 6 dolphins and a barracuda . I asked if the group would like to change up and go try a blue one. They consented .Out came the 80s and off we went. Pretty water but no stick fish. Great day on the water.

May 1,2010
Fished on THE OFFICE today. Rough ocean. Today the blackfins were biting. We ended up with 6 blackfins, 8 dolphins, and a wahoo. You can view pictures and report at www.gofishsc.com offshore report. I had a great time with these fellas. John W.
April 30, 2010
Fished on the BIG KAHUNA today. Great crew! Big Rhett, Little Rhett, Capt Ted, Bryant Stokes, and me. We did our usual, we went after a blue one first and anything else second. We found the edge just offshore of the Gtown hole. The gaffers were there. We trolled a weed line looking for a blue one. We came across 2 turtles doing the wild thing. They had a gallery of gaffers under them. They got more interested in us than the turtles. 3 hooked up asap. The rest followed. I quickly took rigs off and straight hook to the swivel. We bailed gaffers. It was fun! We never got a billfish bite. The highlight of the day was Ted diving for our largest dolphin LR dropped over the side while off loading. He found it. 38 lbs 10 ozs .

Finally got to go offshore this weekend. I was fortunate enough to be invited to fish on the Big Kahuna w/ the Spencers, Capt Ted, and John Hurst. We went out searching for blue marlin and managed to capture 13 nice dolphin. Day was beautiful, calm, and a great time was had by all. When we returned to the dock little Rhett somehow managed to drop our largest dolphin in the river. Guess what, dead dolphin do not float! Well as John and I are cleaning fish we see our trusted Capt Ted adorning his scuba gear. Next thing you know he brings up a 39lb dolphin and we get to eat him after all.

Fishing today on the BIG KAHUNA. Blue Marlin was our goal. We went straight to Bubble Rock. We set out 4 lures and the rest ballyhoos. We only got one bite all day. It was a blue on the left short rigger. We got a good look and about 25 yards of drag pulled off. It was great to see that fish. One thing to note, Capt Tommy Lewis installed shaft tubes on the BIG KAHUNA during the annual haul out. Seems to be working, making our harmonics more presentable to billfishing. We were all pleased to have targeted Blue Marlin this early and got the bite .Had another great crew Capt Ted, Big Rhett, John Westley, Garrett Kester, and myself.
Also worked on the NO PROBLEM this week. We are trying to get ready for the upcoming season. It has been especially hard this year. Our beloved Capt Skip Opalko has been ill and not able to work. We are all praying that he recovers completely and returns soon. We had generator issues and had to scrap our Hook A Hoo entry. Congrats to the winners of a great tournament.
My daughter Laura Frances has been enjoying limb line fishing on the Pee Dee River. She called and reported a 50 pounder this morning. Pictures will be posted later.

I worked on my gardens in the morning. Laura Frances got up early to help check limb lines. They got em. Cat fish were biting. They kept 11, released 4, and had 2 lines the fish took with them. I met Bob Lynch to go Redbreast fishing on Jefferies Creek. Creek was falling too fast. We still caught about 40+. We ended up keeping close to 20. The creek is a beautiful place this time of year. I will be back when the water stabilizes.

We have been picking at the turkeys. Les Smith killed his first turkey within a several yards of his dads first turkey almost twenty years ago. We will post a photo. Overall we are seeing a decrease in turkeys. Could it be the coyotes? Time will tell.
Our planting on the Pack Club is a victim of lack of rain. We need some rain! We will wait. Richard and the helpers have all our prep work done.
The fishing report is a little better. On Thursday afternoon at 4pm the BIG KAHUNA was in the yard. At 8 am Friday she was in the Georgetown Hole. Great crew, Rhett Spencer, Capt Ted Porter, Capt Stevie Cramer, John Westley, Garret Kester, and myself. We always try to catch fish for supper and then chase an edge for a blue one. We caught a nice Wahoo and a Blackfin and on the chase we went. Our Hilton Realtime Navigator report showed an edge between the Hole and Bubble Rock. It was right on! We found 73 degree water with an edge running to the east. Missed a hopper and caught a 34 lb gaffer. The last hour we ran back to the hole and finished up with another Wahoo. We ended the day with a big gaffer, two 45lb Wahoo, a Blackfin, and 2 Boneheads. Meat fish Slam.
Fish the Hook A Hoo out of NMB www.martinisfinedining.com . Ace and Jeff have a made this tournament user friendly and for a great cause. We will fish it on the NO PROBLEM.
One last report Rhett and I went red fishing in North Inlet last Sunday. 1 Redfish. Rhett is interested in a flats boat. If anyone knows of a good deal around send me a message.
Headed to the creek today. The redbreast are the target.

I fished today on board ON THE HOOK with Jimmy Bass and Capt Sammie Grayson. We had a great time and caught some fish. We managed to land 3 wahoo, one over 60 lbs . We had a billfish on for about 40 yards and then it pulled. We worked the kinks out of the tackle. Old line cost us 2 fish. Time is upon us. Check your equipment and get it right. Weather was beautiful! We also missed several fish. The turkeys have slowed down.

Turkey season began today with a bang, 6 long beards, 15 mistake, and a youth 1st time kill. It was a great opening day at the Pack Club. I am planting field corn. The planter broke and needed welding. No Problem, we took her back to the club house. Jerald (Old Bo) Stone welded it with the clubs welder. It is nice to have equipment and people to maintain our tractors and implements. We are still working on new patches, get done before the leaves come.

Planted my potatoes today. Planting sweet corn tomorrow. I am monitoring my emails and messages by phone today.

Chris and I worked the Palmetto Sportsmans Classic in Columbia this past weekend. It was a great event. We met lots of people and hopefully generated some business. Huntfishjohnhurst.com is launching an e commerce site soon. It is under development now. It will be in H&H OUTDOORS on the home page. Stay tuned.
Bo Wood AND Gary Barringer are coming from Arkansas tomorrow to turkey hunt.
3/20/10
Attended the kick off for the new landing in Georgetown. Lots of attendance. There were several boat dealers there as well as local guides. The people showed up in support of the event. I left there and went to Georgetown Landing Marina to do tackle work on the BIG KAHUNA. It was a beautiful day, we need more of these. I got all my leaders and knots done, headed back home for John Westley's 21st birthday. Birthday dinner at the house tonight. Spend time hunting and fishing with your kids and you will not have to hunt your kids. I heard this all my life statement life long, it has proven true for my family thus far. Tomorrow I meet Richard to work on the Pack Club prepping to plant corn for wildlife plots. I cannot say this enough, every club needs a RICHARD REYNOLDS.
3/16
Not a lot to report on, I did go crappie fishing Last week. Freddie and I caught 12+ in a couple of hours. We had a fish fry on Saturday. They were great! Richard Reynolds and I have been working on the club, getting lots done. Saw 2 turkey gobblers fighting in a field today on my way to Georgetown. We have been working on the grander video also, be out soon.
Do you know what Catch Shares are? I would highly suggest you find out. Lots of things are rapidly changing .At the turn of every century there is catastrophic change , Do not stand and let bad things happen. JOIN RFA ( www.joinrfa.org). Dont wake up one day and wonder how this happened.
Everyone wants to fish, need a little warm water and a smooth day combined. The Bluefin are still off Oregon Inlet. Wahoo are being caught when weather allows off S.C. Not a lot of numbers but good weight.

I talked to Eddie Huffman this afternoon. The Bluefin are still chewing out of Oregon Inlet . Tonight is the annual quail supper at the Florence Bluewater Fishing Club. Always good. More SCDNR stats about fish quotas and closures. Very informative! Dr. Eric Heiden announced that 3 on time weather buoys had been deployed off Georgetown. They will come online in the next 30 days. That is great news for everyone who uses the ocean in that area. Great Job! Weather is looking better, hope to fish soon.

I had the program at the Little River Saltwater Angles Club; I cooked bog, collards, and slaw. Good food. The biggest part of our meeting was about the SCDNR Regs that were before us. Also whats happening nationally with federal Regs? Email or /and call every public representative about pending legislation that will drastic effect life as we know it in the inshore/offshore world. We viewed the Grander video. The best part of the meeting was that my Captain Skip (SKIPPY) Opalko from the No Problem was there. For those who dont know Skip has been fighting some health issues. He seems to be recovering well. We are looking forward to the upcoming tournament season.
Talked to my close friend Mark Dickson of Shallow Minded Inshore Charters. He is catching the redfish. Give him a call for a fun day of fish catching (843 458 3055). Check his site out at www.fishmyrtlebeach.com .
Back to work. If you need shirts, hats, or anything imprinted give me a call.

Enjoyed some sunshine for a change. Richard and I have been as busy as possible planting wildlife patches on the Pack Club. Also moving and changing deer stands. Now is the time to get that done. Wait to July and August and you will be dealing with foliage, heat, and mosquitoes. I got several areas that need work still.
We attended and worked the Hartsville DU Banquet (BLACK CREEK CHAPTER) on Friday night. Huge turnout. It was a great fundraiser for the ducks. Saw a lot of people I had not seen in a while. Look forward to next year.
On Saturday night we were back at Hemingway for the Pee Dee River Chapter .Another great event! This chapter has been in the top 10 % in the country for the last 3 years. This is quite an accomplishment, one to be very proud of. They do it with a down home communityatmosphere. Congrats and hope to see you in the top ten again this year.

Sorry it's taken so long to post. I have seen plenty to report. A couple of weeks ago a Bald Eagle flew around our club house several times very low. What a majestic site to see while standing on your own property. Last we attended the Florence DU Chapters Oyster Roast. It was a great time. Did I mention snow? WOW... I videoed a lotof snow footage. This weekend past Harold Langdon and his rabbit dogs came to town. Another great time as well as great food. Harold has great dogs that only run rabbits in deer country. You would be surprised at the amount of buck deer that still have horns. Got most of my tree stands out of the woods. Put up my decoys and duck blinds away. Still plenty to do but I must confess I miss duck hunting a lot. Stay tuned for breaking t shirt news. Going to be a big week;Moore 'sCrossroads Big Buck Contest on Thursday, Black Creek DU on Friday, Pee Dee River DU on Saturday, and cooking atLittle River Saltwater Anglers on Monday. I also have the club program for the meeting. I think we are going to talk about the White Marlin Open

Back to work now. There is an issue that has been on my mind since our economic downturn. Few has it not affected. After realizing that an economic recovery is not possible without putting Americans back to work.Where are these jobs coming from? After asking this question over 200 times to people in responsible areas, the response was there was none 80% of the time. 18%there was a pause to think and then, the same answer nowhere. The other 2% said we could put Americans to rebuilding our national infrastructure. That would be great but contributes nothing to our GDP. Point Is, it is up to Americans to put Americans back to work. I am offering an American made tee shirt option this year. You can buy either offshore or inshore. The choice will be yours. Stay tuned to my Home Page for more info.

I do have some news to share today. I talked to Capt Matt Wilkensen today at Georgetown Landing Marina. He is offering a unique fishing package this upcoming season. He is using a 53 Hatteras as a mother ship on a 3 day inshore charter. Leave midday ,fish the afternoon , return to the mother ship, full day fishing next day, again return to ship, fish next morning, then come home. Great concept. This will take place in the estuaries between Georgetown and Charleston. Give Matt a call for details 843-997-9642.
I traveled from Ocean Isle Beach to Georgetown the last two days. The weather is beating everyone up. Hope to see some sunshine in our future. Our club had to postpone an annual rabbit hunt due to rain this weekend. El Nino is getting his licks in the last few months. On the offshore news, there are some really nice wahoo mixed in with blackfin if you can get offshore.

Made it back yesterday from Arkansas. Barely beat the ice storm out of the state. The abundance of water made hunting interesting this season. Patterns that were consistent for years got a lot more complex. You could have a great day, go back and have a poor to fair day, expect a poor day and have a good day. Having said this, at the seasons worst, it was still far better than hunting in South Carolina. The greatest advantage of such a season is that you grow in knowledge of area hunting. Before you had no need to get out and look. Now you were compelled to. We have a lot of pictures and video clips to share .I do not wish time to past any faster, but cannot wait for next duck season. I got to meet Capt. Peter B. Wright. He hunted with us for 3 days .Pete is a great guy in every sense of the word. Expect more media about this duck season. Now I must get back to the real world in order to get back to next duck season. The striper and tuna bite has been good in Oregon Inlet.
